Earthquake in Haiti

On Tuesday, January 12, 2010, a catastrophic earthquake the island nation of Haiti. This island nation, already the most impoverished nation in the Americas, has been devastated by this disaster.

UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief, has set up several efforts to provide information on this disaster and aid to the people of Haiti, including:

  • Follow the latest updates on the disaster on the UMCOR Hotline.
  • Donations can be made online directly to UMCOR through the Haiti Disaster Response Advance #418325. This is a secure service provided by UMCOR and 100% of the gifts will go to aiding the recovery in Haiti.
  • Consider putting together Health Kits as part of the response to this disaster. These can be delivered to the Midwest Mission Distribution Center in Chatham, Illinois or to Sager Brown in Baldwin, Louisiana.
  • Keep in prayer the Volunteers in Mission that were already in Haiti when the earthquake struck and the many volunteers who will be travelling to the country to help in the rescue and recovery efforts.
  • Keep in prayer the families of Sam Dixon and Clinton Rabb. Both men were in Haiti for UMCOR when the earthquake struck and died from the injuries they sustained during the disaster.
