Global Missions Projects
Of the giving to the general fund in 2007, $5,500 will help support the following projects selected by the Global Missions Committee. Giving beyond what is in the church budget (called second-mile giving) supports other projects such as Heifer International and the South African Soup Kitchen. Second-mile giving to global missions projects is consistently about $25,000/year.
Missionary Dee Dee Heffner - ($2,500/year)
Dee Dee teaches English, drama, and speech at
McCurdy
High School in Espanola, New Mexico. McCurdy provides a strong Christian family
environment, and for some young people, the school is the most cohesive and stable force in
their lives. For quite a few of the students, they are the only ones in their families not
using heroin (the county in which McCurdy is located has the highest death rate in the U.S.
for heroin-related overdoses).
Missionary Gaston Ntambo - ($1,000/year)
Gaston is a pilot and mechanic with Wings of the
Morning flight ministry in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This ministry
transports pastors, evangelists, church leaders, and critically ill patients in isolated
areas often inaccessible by land. The ministry has saved countless lives through
the delivery of vaccines and medical supplies, as well as by providing
transport for doctors and nurses covering over 60 clinics and two hospitals.
Grace Children's Hospital / International Childcare - ($1,000/year)
Grace Children's Hospital is Haiti's leading curative and preventative
treatment center for children and families suffering from tuberculosis (TB).
The hospital includes a 72-bed pediatric in-patient facility as well as mobile
out-patient clinics that treat 4,000 patients monthly. Preventative services are
also offered, ranging from immunizations, vitamin A distribution, nutritional
counseling, growth monitoring, pre-natal care, and AIDS prevention and support
services. For more information, visit

House of the Carpenter - ($500/year)
This ministry in Wheeling, W.V. provides emergency assistance (including
food, clothing, shelter, utility and rent assistance, transportation,
medical assistance, and crisis counseling and referral) to families in
need in this severely depressed area of the country. Advocacy and
guardianship for persons with mental handicaps are also part of this
ministry. Churches in the local area do not have the capital to fully
support this project. More information about services and programs
provided at House of the Carpenter can be found at

El Porvenir Water Development Project - ($500/year)
An estimated 2.1 million people across the globe perish every year for want of clean water. With the help of El Porvenir (http://www.elporvenir.org/), communities in rural Nicaragua can build covered, sanitary wells that will dramatically improve the life and health of an entire village. The wells are fitted with a low technology "rope pump" made in Nicaragua, which local residents can easily and cheaply repair. The wells are enclosed with a fence to keep out animals. El Porvenir provides the expertise and the materials; local villagers provide the labor and the long-term maintenance.
