A Call to Prayer
You are invited to join me in prayer for the General Conference Special Session which convenes on Saturday, February 23 - Tuesday, February 26, 2019. The General Conference is The United Methodist Church’s highest legislative body and meets once every four years. The Commission on a Way Forward was proposed by the Council of Bishops and approved during the 2016 General Conference to do a complete examination and possible revision of every paragraph of the Book of Discipline concerning human sexuality, and to explore options that help to maintain and strengthen the unity of the church. United Methodist delegates (lay and clergy), along with our bishops, will gather in St. Louis, Missouri this weekend with the goal of finding a way forward through our disagreements about same-sex marriage and ordination of LGBTQ clergy.
As an alternate delegate, Pastor Anna will attend the called special session of General Conference. As she returns and transitions back into her responsibilities at Church of the Master after March 3, every effort to address whatever outcome presents itself at General Conference will be made. If you would like further information on the special session, including an invitation to join the broader United Methodist community in prayer, please follow the links below:
This is the Commission on a Way Forward’s full report, including the different plans that have been proposed. Here is a summary chart of the three plans.
The Advance Daily Christian Advocate contains the agenda, rules, delegate listings, petitions, reports from the general agencies/commissions and study committees, information for delegates, and codes of conduct for the 2019 General Conference.

After the Special General Conference, Bishop Gregory V. Palmer will hold a post-conference simulcast on Saturday, March 2 at 10:00 am, to be held at various locations across the conference, details and locations available here.
It is my deep prayer that the Holy Spirit breaks through the anger, division, and deeply held convictions during the General Conference. May God’s Spirit show the delegates a way that The United Methodist Church can continue to be in mission, ministry, and community with one another, all across the globe as we seek to affirm the humanity of all and spread the Good News of Jesus Christ. Will you join me in prayer?
Yours in Christ,
