This Lent we are doing something countercultural: we will rest. We are returning to Sabbath—God’s gift of rest to all of creation. Instead of taking things on, we invite you to fast from the grind: from anxiety, multitasking, overwork, over-scheduling, and white supremacy. Together we will explore how Sabbath brings healing, liberation, and restoration, grounded in Psalm 23’s invitation to rest in our loving Creator. Come to worship, shared rest and play, and create community art that reflects Psalm 23. This Lent, let us practice rest as resistance to injustice, exhaustion, and the systems that deplete life.

Fast from:

  • Social media and doomscrolling — replace the habit with something life-giving (maybe a nap)

  • Constant email or text checking — create a schedule or set gentle boundaries

  • Capitalism — no purchasing on Sundays; refrain from non-essential buying during Lent

  • Grind culture — nap without guilt; pray, daydream

  • Ignorance — learn histories you didn’t know (book suggestions available; lean into UMF resources)

  • Productivity — rest, dream, create art, listen to music
